Why Not To Use Flash!
Here is a snippet of an article I wrote on why not to use flash… You may read the rest of the article on the Web Design Tips – Dont Use Flash webpage.
There are a lot of people out there offering amazing sites that are made purely in Flash, sites that have awesome features with sweet transitions and animated characters. All of these features are great for customers that don’t want to place on the search engines under competitive keywords and phrases and don’t mind the crazy load times.
Did I just go there?! I think I did! You ask, “Robert, what are you saying? That my flash website can’t get indexed and placed on google, msn and yahoo?!”. Well they can get indexed but the nature of Search Engine’s are to find relevant sites to the keyword or phrase you typed in and lo-and-behold search engines can’t read EVERYTHING on flash. Sure if select the “make text HTML option” search engines can read it, but what happens about your other pages that aren’t loaded?

are you saying that Adobe Flash is not such a good program to create websites in?? What programs do you recommend other than Flash to create an interactive webpage?

I am saying that flash can add great effects to your websites but the content is still not able to be read in the search engine’s. I code all my sites in XHTML / CSS and Javascript.
There are some REALLY nice javascript effects out there that can do the pretty transitions and the like that flash can do.
